Friday, Feb 12th:
Blues/R&B/Soul from NashvilleStacy Mitchhart - $10We call his music "NashVegas Blues." No matter how big or small the venue, Stacy is there to entertain. We were so grateful he came by our Arty Party last year and blew the house down.
Stacy says, "I'm a musician! One of the noblest professions in the world. Blues is my first love but I cheat on her with jazz, soul, funk, hip hop, neosoul, latin, classic rock, country & classical. But never heavy metal, punk, polka, etc. My music is my life, my wife, my mistress, my passion. I sing, play guitar, bass, and compose. I own my own record label, Dr. Sam Records. I've put out 8 CDs and a DVD. They have done fairly well for me. Got my first Grammy Nod (first round nominee for Contemporary Blues Album) this year. Got my first #1 song(You Turn Me On) last year. It was in the niche Beach Music Market. If nothing else, I'm determined. I'm 49 and I still get excited about doing this like I was 16 again. The guys in my band are like that too. Nothing I hate more than a musician who "mails it in" and takes it for granted."
Saturday, February 13th:
Blues/Indie from DallasSmokin' Joe Kubek with BNois King - $15There's no question why they gave Joe Kubek the nickname "Smokin'." He's one of the hottest electric guitar players on the blues scene today. Kubek has the technique and the chops to burn up any stage and has been doing so since the 1970's when he began frequenting the Dallas bar scene, playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan and people like the three Kings, B. B., Albert and Freddie. He settled into playing rhythm guitar behind Freddie King for a while, until King's death in December 1976.
This is our Valentine to you.
Friday, February 19th:
Americana/Blues/Roots Music from Warrensburg, MONace Brothers - $7The Nace Brothers Band first played together on December 31, 1981. Twenty-eight years later, they're still going strong with three original members, David Nace, Jimmy Nace and Tim Williams, along with their newest member, T.J. Erhardt. The band is now musically unstoppable, touring 220 dates over 50,000 miles a year. For the Nace Brothers Band, music has been and always will be a way of life. It's been a while since they've been to Uncle Bo's. Let's give them a warm welcome.
Saturday, February 20th:
Zydeco from Lafayette, LACreole Zydeco Farmers - $5The Hippest Old School Band Around
The Creole Zydeco Farmers are a popular Lafayette-based zydeco band that's toured around the country and overseas. The group's 2000 release, Zydeco Y2K, includes hit song "Hole in the Wall," about a club that fits the song title's description but that offers more fun than anyplace else. My first zydeco cds were by the Creole Zydeco Farmers, so I feel very fortunate they're stopping by to perform for us.
Friday, February 26th:
Hometown Boys! Blues/Progressive Blues/Roots MusicJosh Vowell & the Rumble - $5Topeka's own IBC winner for 2009 Josh Vowell & the Rumble is a four-piece blues band that slammed on the Topeka music scene in 2007. The group found its blues calling through the sound and soul of the blues. We're always glad to have them come perform at Uncle Bo's.
