July, 2010

Friday, July 23rd:

Blues/Rock/Country from Massachusetts
Albert Cummings and Josh Vowell & the Rumble - $15

Stevie Ray Vaughn's backing band, Double Trouble joined Cummings when he signed with Blind Pig Records to create "True to Yourself." Albert's rapidly developing songwriting, vocals, and guitar work are showcased on his latest Blind Pig release, "Working Man." This time they brought in Jim Gaines (there's that name again) to produce. Albert Cummings has toured with BB King, Johnny Winter and Buddy Guy. Albert's flying in for his first trip to Uncle Bo's and we know he's going to love it and you're going to love him.

Saturday, July 24th:

Blues from Lawrence
Lee McBee & the Confessors - $10

Kansas Music Hall of Famer, Lee McBee has just returned from Europe where he'd been spreading his harmonica talent across the pond. Pat Recob on bass from KC, is an Uncle Bo's favorite, with unbelievable energy and spirit. Before forming the Confessors, Lee put out six acclaimed recordings as front man for Mike Morgan & the Crawl.

Friday, July 30th:

Blues from Kansas City
Samatha Fish Band - $5

Samantha Fish plays the blues like a veteran at only 21 years of age. She's shared a stage with Tommy Castro, Tab Benoit and Shirley King. Her deceptively mature voice is sultry and innocent at the same time. Samantha is out to set the world on fire with her blues and is headed for a international tour.

Saturday, July 31st:

Blues/R&B/Roots from Portland, Oregon
Insomniacs - $10

2010 BMA nominees, the Insomniacs, are coming back to visit one of their favorites places, Uncle Bo's. "At Least I'm Not With You" is my favorite bad relationship song. Their astounding set of material has been finely tuned night after night on the road, over the last two years. It's mix of blues, swing, jump and roots rock. You can dance or sit back and watch the show. Either way, it's a night of entertainment at its best.

August, 2010

Friday, August 6th:

Blues from Kansas City
Doghouse Daddies - $5

Blues'n the Midwest and beyond with dynamic performances, The Doghouse Daddies is a rock solid band that's become a favorite on both sides of the Mississippi. Polished vocals and harmonies are a testiment to this band's years of experience. 2007 IBC semi-finalists. 2008 IBC finalists.

Saturday, August 7th:

Blues and southern rock from Tulsa, Oklahoma
The Dustin Pittsley Band - $5

Dustin Pittsley has has been generating a buzz around Oklahoma for years, representing Tulsa Blues Society at the IBC where they were 2010 semi-finalists and won the 2010 Beale Street Blues Kings competition, in addition to all their local, Tulsa accolades.

Dustin started at 17 and has shared the stage with Tab Benoit, Bernard Allison and Watermelon Slim. With three albums to his credit, it's yet another IBC competitor taking his career to the top. I've been watching Dustin's career for a couple of years and in my book he is the whole package.

Sunday, August 8th:

International Blues Challenge, Topeka Youth Showcase - 1:00 PM

All entries and visitors welcome

Featuring Sean Chambers and last year's Youth Showcase winner, the Nick Hern Band

Friday, August 13th:

Blues, R&B and Funk from Nashville
Stacy Mitchhart - $10

Stacy says, "I'm a musician! It's one of the noblest professions in the world. Blues is my first love but I cheat on her with jazz, soul, funk, hip hop, neosoul, latin, classic rock, country & classical. But never heavy metal, punk, polka, etc. My music is my life, my wife, my mistress, my passion. I sing, play guitar, bass, and compose. I own my own record label, Dr. Sam Records. I've put out eight CDs and a DVD. They've done fairly well for me. I got my first Grammy Nod (first round nominee for Contemporary Blues Album) this year. Got my first #1 song (You Turn Me On) last year. It was in the niche Beach Music Market.

If nothing else, I'm determined. I'm 49 and I still get excited about doing this like I was 16 again. The guys in my band are like that too. Nothing I hate more than a musician who "mails it in" and takes it for granted."

Saturday, August 14th:

Blues from Cincinnati, Ohio
Jon Justice Band - $5

By popular demand, Jon Justice will make his first headlining appearance at Uncle Bo's. Jon was born in the Chicago area in 1982. His first formal music performance experience came as a teenager when he toured nationally with bluegrass and gospel groups. In 1999, he acted upon the visceral effect blues music has had on him since his youth: acknowledging its place in his soul and moved to Memphis. Now based in Ohio, he appeared at the 2010 Blind Raccoon Showcase at the Rum-Boogie in Memphis during this year's IBC.

They're currently recording material for a planned live album.

With songs you can sing along with, come down, dance and party the night away. It's rhythm and blues, hot buttered soul and sophisticated funk.

Friday, August 27th:

Blues/Rockabilly/Jazz from Oceanside, California
Candye Kane - $15

Candye Kane is finally coming to Uncle Bo's! A 2010 Blues Foundation nominee for BB King Entertainer of the Year, Best Blues Contemporary CD and Best Contemporary Blues Female Artist, Candye Kane is a past recipient of many awards.

She's performed worldwide for presidents and movie stars but her path to success was not always glamorous or easy. Raised in a dysfunctional, blue collar family, teenage mother, a pin up cover girl and punk rock, hillbilly and blues-belting anarchist by the time she was 21 years-old and beating down pancreatic cancer over the last two years... With 10 CDs, six record labels, millions of road miles, countless awards, Miss Kane is a true survivor.

Saturday, August 28th:

Southern Rock & Blues from Topeka
Josh Vowell & the Rumble - $5

Topeka's 2009 IBC winner and representative in Memphis, the four-piece progressive blues band has been playing together since 2007. Finding their calling in the blues and soul, they play it with a southern rock sound. They've been invited to a blues festivals in Sedalia, Missouri, competed in the KC Blues Challenge in 2008 then went on to win the Topeka IBC in 2009 representing us in Memphis in 2010. The boys got a taste for Memphis and will be trying for a repeat trip at our August 15th IBC event at Uncle Bo's.
